What is Microdermabrasion good for?
One of the newer additions to the anti-aging skin treatments is a procedure called microdermabrasion. The Doctors can easily provide this service without the typical “down” time associated with other skin rejuvenating procedures. The treatment is usually administered in about 30 minutes. 4 to 10 treatments may be recommended to treat various skin conditions to achieve the best results.
Treatable conditions for which Microdermabrasion may be indicated:
- Acne scarring
- Blending stretch marks
- “Age” spots
- Sun-damaged skin
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Superficial pigmentation

How does it work?
Microdermabrasion works by directing a fine stream of medical grade aluminum-oxide particles along the skin and gently suctioning away the crystals and superficial debris. A small handheld instrument, similar to a pen is guided exactly where it is needed by the doctors or assistant. The gentle abrasive action of the crystals, combined with the suction, clears and removes some of the “dead” outer layer of skin and brings smoother, healthier skin to the surface. The mechanical action is also reported to stimulate production of new collagen.
Is it safe?
Unlike some laser treatment and chemical peels, microdermabrasion is proving safe for types of skin that are usually prone to pigment irregularities.
